12 Video Streaming Platforms Compared: Honeygainer's Best Choice

Let’s face it: regular cable just isn’t doing it for us anymore. We want to be able to choose what we watch, when we watch it, and how much of it we watch in one sitting – and it’s best we can do it without those pesky ads!

According to Statista, 78% of Americans used at least one paid subscription video on-demand service (SVoD) in 2020. If you’d like to start using them too (or maybe get an extra one to explore other genres?), earning effortlessly with Honeygain could be a perfect way to cover the monthly subscription fees. Let’s see what choice you have and how many months a single Honeygain payout of $20 could get you!

1. Netflix

🗺️ Countries and territories: 190+

🔥 Hottest titles: Orange Is the New Black, Stranger Things, The Witcher

💸 Pricing: $8.99–$17.99/month

Netflix is the one platform everyone knows – even your dad might remember it from the early 2000s when the company specialized in renting out movies on DVD. Since then, Netflix took two major steps that helped it thrive: first, it entered the online streaming business; second, it started producing original content that no one else could offer.

There are three payment plans to choose from: Basic ($8.99 – 480p, 1 screen), Standard ($13.99 – 1080p; 2 screens), and Premium ($17.99 – 4K+HDR; 4 screens). The platform currently hosts around 15,000 titles – however, it’s hard to define a number with catalogue updates happening all the time, and the selection differs from country to country.

2. Hulu

🗺️ Countries and territories: US only

🔥 Hottest titles: The Handmaid’s Tale, Little Fires Everywhere, Normal People

💸 Pricing: $5.99–$11.99/month (or $1.99/month for students!)

🐝 One Honeygain payout can cover the fee for ✅ 1–10 months

The biggest disadvantage Hulu has when compared to Netflix is the area it serves, which is strictly limited to the United States. Furthermore, while its cheapest plan might seem, well, cheaper ($5.99/month), it comes with ads, doesn’t allow for offline downloads, and doesn’t include access to some catalog titles (e.g., right now, Grey’s Anatomy is only available with the No Ads plan).

Just like Netflix, Hulu creates its own original content. While its library is somewhat smaller, the company does produce some winners – e.g., the movie Palm Springs was nominated for two Golden Globes in 2021! Hulu supports HD and even has a separate 4K Ultra HD catalog, and for those who cannot seem to say goodbye to the regular TV just yet, Hulu + Live TV plans are available – however, these cost $64.99–$70.99/month.

3. HBO Max

🗺️ Countries: US only

🔥 Hottest titles: Euphoria, Chernobyl, The Undoing

💸 Pricing: $14.99/month

🐝 One Honeygain payout can cover the fee for ✅ 1 month (+ popcorn🍿)

As the name suggests, HBO Max mainly includes the content from the paid television network HBO. However, it’s not just that: you can also find original content (a.k.a. Max Originals), movies and TV series owned by WarnerMedia, and other licensed content. Most of the titles can also be viewed in HD (with compatible devices, of course).

HBO Max occasionally does same-day premieres for brand new movies (e.g., Wonder Woman 1984 and Mortal Kombat) when they launch in cinemas. This is a massive plus for a video streaming platform – however, such releases are set to stop in 2022. On the other hand, HBO Max plans to arrive in Latin America, the Caribbean, and parts of Europe this year!

4. Amazon Prime Video

🗺️ Countries and territories: 200+

🔥 Hottest titles: Fleabag, This Is Us, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

💸 Pricing: $8.99/month (or free with an Amazon Prime membership)

🐝 One Honeygain payout can cover the fee for ✅ 2 months (+ popcorn🍿)

Are there any industries that Amazon hasn’t stepped into yet? We highly doubt it. What was initially an online bookstore is now an e-shopping giant, an electronics producer, a publisher, a cloud service provider… The list goes on and on – and with Amazon Studios and Amazon Prime Video, it’s also knee-deep in the video production and streaming industries.

Aside from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video is the only video streaming platform with virtually global coverage, so it’s no wonder it currently has a whopping 175 million users! The platform supports 4K and HDR streaming, as well as 5.1 Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus audio. In addition to your usual free-for-members catalog, it also includes movie renting options and Prime Video Channels for an additional cost.

5. Disney+

🗺️ Countries and territories: 36

🔥 Hottest titles: The Mandalorian, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, WandaVision

💸 Pricing: $7.99/month

🐝 One Honeygain payout can cover the fee for ✅ 2 months (+ popcorn🍿)

Disney+ might be one of the youngsters of this list – however, being a private video streaming platform of an almost a century-old and world-renowned movie producer that owns the rights to hundreds of classic animations and live-action films, it instantly found the way to the users’ heart. In fact, the first 10 million accounts were created on the very first day!

Apart from the fairytales and animated stories we all know and love from our childhood days, Disney+ also owns the Star Wars and Marvel franchises. The quality is impressive, too: the platform supports 4K Ultra HD in Dolby Vision and HDR10, and most titles are dubbed or subtitled in multiple languages (16 in total). Each account can have up to 7 profiles and use 4 screens at the same time – which makes it perfect for families or roommates.

6. Boomerang

🗺️ Countries and territories: US only

🔥 Hottest titles: The Scooby-Doo Show, The Yogi Bear Show, Taz-Mania

💸 Pricing: $4.99/month

🐝 One Honeygain payout can cover the fee for ✅ 4 months

As you can probably tell from the show titles mentioned above, Boomerang is mostly animation-focused – and if you watched a lot of Cartoon Network as a kid, you might recognise most of the shows and characters in a heartbeat. Tom and Jerry are here, and so are the Flinstones.

The video streaming platform is owned by Warner Bros. Entertainment, specifically its Kids, Young Adults and Classics department, and the majority of the content is made by Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera. If you’re not the most nostalgic one, we doubt you’ll spend much of your time here, as most of the programming seems to be either reruns or reboots. It might be a solid option for those who have nephews, nieces, or little ones of their own, though!

7. Peacock

🗺️ Countries and territories: US only

🔥 Hottest titles: Brave New World, Cleopatra in Space, The Office

💸 Pricing: $5–10/month (part of the content is available for free)

🐝 One Honeygain payout can cover the fee for ✅ 2–4 months

NBCUniversal-owned Peacock offers three pricing options: you can watch roughly half of the catalog for free with commercials, pay $5 a month for Premium membership to see all the titles (still with ads, though!), or opt for Premium Plus, pay $10 a month, and see everything that’s available without any ad interruptions. Whichever option you go for, Peacock supports HD and (even 4K) video quality for most of its content.

One of the best advantages Peacock offers to its paid users is a chance to watch brand-new episodes of ongoing NBC shows (such as Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon) as soon as one day after they originally air. Furthermore, Peacock streams a ton of sports events (including the Olympics and Premier League soccer matches) live – which sports fans couldn’t appreciate more!

8. Apple TV+

🗺️ Countries and territories: 107

🔥 Hottest titles: Defending Jacob, Truth Be Told, See

💸 Pricing: $4.99/month

🐝 One Honeygain payout can cover the fee for ✅ 4 months

While basically all popular streaming services dabble in creating original content, it’s a priority for Apple TV+ – therefore, you won’t find a ton of beloved classics on its catalog. These guys prefer to go for quality over quantity, so while their selection is somewhat smaller, it’s usually top of the notch: it’s been said Apple spent a whopping $6 billion on attracting the best movie industry talents to the platform!

Furthermore, even though Apple TV+ has a lower global coverage than, say, Netflix, it is really focused on producing international content: the company plans to provide dubbing and/or subtitles in almost 40 languages for all titles. Add 4K support and a chance to have up to 6 profiles on a single account (with individual passwords, nonetheless!), and you’ve got quite a deal for just $4.99 a month!

9. Paramount+

🗺️ Countries and territories: 24

🔥 Hottest titles: Star Trek, Sin City, Why Women Kill

💸 Pricing: $5.99–$9.99/month

🐝 One Honeygain payout can cover the fee for ✅ 2 months (+ popcorn🍿… if you’re good with ads!)

Paramount+ offers a wide selection of Paramount Pictures, CBS, BET, Comedy Central, MTV, and Nickelodeon production. On the day of the launch, it had around 2,500 movies and nearly 30,000 episodes of various TV episodes – and it’s not like they’re stopping here! It’s a pity that while the platform does have 4K support, this level of quality is not available for the majority of titles (older ones, especially) – as well as Dolby Atmos sound.

Just like Hulu, Paramount+ has two pricing tiers that only differ in terms of ads: you pay $5.99 to view the content with them or $9.99 to use the video streaming service with no interruptions. Not too bad with such a variety of content, right?

10. Discovery+

🗺️ Countries and territories: 14

🔥 Hottest titles: Finding Bigfoot, 90 Day Fiancé, Dr. Pimple Popper

💸 Pricing: $4.99–$6.99/month

🐝 One Honeygain payout can cover the fee for ✅ 2–4 months

Here’s a thing: Discovery, Inc. owns a massive bunch of television brands. HGTV? Check. Animal Planet? Check? Science Channel, History, and Trvl? Check, check, and check! The content on Discovery+ is as varied as it is plentiful: you can go from learning about WWII to watching the Barefoot Contessa make pasta in literal seconds – all in Ultra HD 4K quality. With all those gardening, cooking, and home renovation shows, it could also be perfect for your mom... Or anyone's mom, really!

The biggest strength of Discovery+ lies in the fact that its catalogue is significantly different from other video streaming platforms. Everyone has movies and TV series, but no one owns as many documentaries, lifestyle programs, and reality shows! The difference between the two pricing tiers is the presence of ads in the cheaper one. However, even the ad-free version is relatively cheap, considering the amount and uniqueness of content!

11. Acorn

🗺️ Countries and territories: 22

🔥 Hottest titles: Doc Martin, Midsomer Murders, Curtain: Poirot's Last Case

💸 Pricing: $5.99/month

🐝 One Honeygain payout can cover the fee for ✅ 3 months (+ popcorn🍿)

If you’re sick and tired of the same American shows everywhere, Acorn might be just what you need. This video streaming platform focuses on foreign content, including but not limited to British, Irish, Aussie, Canadian, and Spanish stuff. Acorn does produce some original content, too, but its numbers are nowhere near Netflix or HBO Max.

It’s important to note that, unlike most other platforms, Acorn does not support surround sound or exceptional video quality – however, 720p is more than enough: the content is mostly dramas, mysteries, and other shows that do not rely that much on visual effects. There are also no distinct user profiles, either, but you can stream on 4 screens at the same time.

12. Kocowa

🗺️ Countries: 37

🔥 Hottest titles: Music Bank World Tour, Infinite Challenge, School 2017

💸 Pricing: $6.99/month (or $0.99/day)

🐝 One Honeygain payout can cover the fee for ✅ 2 months (+ popcorn🍿)

There’s just something about the Korean culture, right? Despite the language barrier, K-pop and K-dramas have gained jaw-dropping popularity around the world in recent years. If you’re also a fan of this type of content, Kocowa is your best option – not only does it have great shows available, but it’s also quick to provide quality subtitles in multiple languages.

Kocowa, whose name stands for Korean Content Wave, was launched in 2017 by SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System), KBS (Korean Broadcasting System), and MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation) – three leaders of Korean broadcasting. One thing that makes Kocowa stand out is its Live Stream feature that includes chatting with other viewers in real time as you watch your favorite dramas, music or reality shows. Talk about a virtual watch party!
